Benefits of Refractory Bricks

Thermal stability and longevity
One key benefit of refractory bricks is their unparalleled thermal stability. Designed to withstand high temperatures, refractory bricks are rated for temperatures exceeding 1600°c, a testament to their refractory properties. While the temperatures reached in a braai or domestic fireplace May not reach this level, the ability of refractory bricks to endure prolonged heat exposure ensures they do not degrade over time.

Resistance to temperature cycles
Another compelling reason to choose refractory bricks is their resilience against temperature cycles. Domestic fireplaces and braais undergo consistent heating and cooling, which can lead to the cracking and breakdown of standard clay bricks. Refractory bricks, on the other hand, resist these cycles effectively, maintaining their structural integrity and ensuring safe and reliable performance over the years.

Thermal mass and insulation
Thermal mass is a critical factor in fireplaces and braais, helping to absorb and radiate heat evenly. While clay bricks possess good thermal mass properties, refractory bricks offer similar benefits, effectively absorbing and distributing heat. This makes them suitable for use in these structures, where consistent heating is essential for both functionality and comfort.

Storage Requirements And Precautions For Refractory Bricks

01/

Storage environment
Refractory bricks should be stored in a dry, ventilated, moisture-proof indoor environment, avoiding exposure to sunlight and rain. Recommended reading: Shelf life of refractory bricks

02/

Stacking method
Refractory bricks should be stacked on a flat surface to prevent the bricks from being extruded and deformed or damaged by bumping.

03/

Stacking height
Refractory brick stacking height should not exceed 1.5 meters, so as not to crush the lower brick body. The width of the passage between the brick stacks is not less than 600mm for sidewalks, 2000~3000mm for transportation paths, and 3000~4000mm for the passage between the boxes when the boxes are loaded and unloaded by forklift trucks, and the distance between the brick stacks or boxes and the wall is not less than 500mm.

04/

Avoid moisture
Refractory bricks are easy to absorb moisture, so in the storage process need to avoid moisture, you can use plastic film and other materials to cover.

05/

Brick number classification
Refractory bricks should be classified according to its product number, specifications, materials and other parameters for storage, easy to use when the selection.

06/

Packaging protection
Refractory bricks should be transported and stored in the process of strengthening the protection of packaging, to avoid the surface of the brick body is scratched and worn.

FAQ

Q: What is the shelf life of refractory bricks?

A: Depending on the composition of the material, most refractory materials have a shelf life ranging from six to twelve months.

Q: Do refractory bricks hold heat?

A: Dense refractory bricks have a high thermal mass which is sometimes a useful property in that they will retain heat eg in a pizza oven after the fire has been taken out.

Q: Can you get refractory bricks wet?

A: Firebricks and all other refractory materials are very porous, so your exposed firebrick vent arch and oven floor will soak up water and hold it for a long time, even through subsequent periods of hot, dry weather. There are two ways that rainwater can make its way onto the firebrick vent arch and oven floor.

Q: Are refractory bricks asbestos?

A: Firebricks and their mortar contained up to 80 percent asbestos. Fireboxes, flues, and chimneys were able to stand prolonged periods of direct flame contact because the asbestos additives didn't burn or distort no matter how hot they got.

Q: Do refractory bricks need mortar?

A: Prepare your adhesive. To guarantee the fireplace's longevity and efficacy, it is imperative to use mortar compatible with your manufacturer's specifications.
