In the battlefield of high-temperature industry, refractory castables are the "steel guards" guarding kilns, ladles, and furnaces. But did you know? Traditional refractory castables are gradually being replaced by a more powerful "upgraded" material - low cement castable. The competition between them is not just the difference in cement content, but also a performance revolution related to strength, life and high temperature resistance!

1. Cement content: from "big stomach king" to "calculated carefully"
Traditional castables are like a "big stomach king" that relies on cement. The cement content is usually 5%~15%, and the strength is provided by cement hydration. However, CaO in cement will generate low-melting products (such as calcium feldspar) at high temperatures, which will weaken the refractory performance.
Low-cement castables are "calculated carefully", with a CaO content of only 1%~2.5%, which greatly reduces harmful low-melting phases and makes the material more stable at high temperatures.
2. Density: From "loose and porous" to "solid"
Traditional castables require a lot of water (8%~12%) to ensure fluidity, but after the water evaporates, a lot of pores will be left, resulting in low strength and poor slag resistance.
Low-cement castables use ultrafine powder (silicon powder, alumina powder) and high-efficiency water reducer, with a water consumption of only 4%~6%. After molding, it is almost "watertight", with extremely low porosity and high erosion resistance!
3. High temperature performance: from "barely supporting" to "indestructible"
Traditional castables are prone to shrinkage and cracking due to cement decomposition at high temperatures, and have a short lifespan.
Low-cement castables are more stable at high temperatures, have higher strength, and better thermal shock resistance due to the reduction of cement, and perform better in harsh environments such as steel, cement, and petrochemicals.
4. Construction performance: from "heavy and difficult to use" to "flexible and efficient"
Traditional castables have average fluidity and require strong vibration to compact during construction.
Low-cement castables have good self-flowing properties due to the addition of water reducers and micropowders, are easy to pump and pour, and have higher construction efficiency, especially suitable for linings with complex shapes.
Low-cement castables are not simply "reduced-cement versions", but have achieved comprehensive performance improvements through micro-powder technology, water-reducing agent optimization, and low-porosity design. In industries such as steel, cement, and chemicals, it is gradually replacing traditional castables and becoming the "guardian" of longevity and high efficiency of high-temperature equipment. This innovation not only extends the life of industrial kilns, but also promotes the progress of the entire refractory industry!
