Low cement castable overcomes the low high temperature strength of ordinary castables and makes up for the defects of poor medium temperature strength of ordinary castables. It adopts the dense packing theory and ultrafine powder technology. It uses ultrafine powder and high-efficiency admixtures to reduce the amount of cement and water, improve the pore structure to make it uniform and increase the strength; the material has the characteristics of anti-penetration, erosion resistance, impact resistance, wear resistance and good mechanical properties. Compared with clay bricks, the price of castables is 3 times that of ordinary furnace linings, but the service life of the kiln is increased by 5 times, with obvious economic benefits.

Low cement refractory castables refer to low cement refractory castables of aluminum silicate, magnesium and silicon. Among them, aluminum silicate low cement refractory castables are the earliest developed, most deeply researched and most widely used.

The formulation principle of low cement refractory castables is to reasonably select particle grading, ultrafine powder and admixture types and their dosage.

The refractory aggregates and powders of low cement refractory castables are made of well-calcined clay clinker and high alumina clinker. The maximum particle size of refractory aggregates is determined according to the thickness of the engineering lining, generally 10 μm. Its particle grading: 10~0.15 mm. Generally speaking, when preparing low cement refractory castables, four levels of particle grading are used to achieve the maximum packing density.

Low cement refractory castables generally use secondary, primary or special grade high alumina clinker as raw materials. After grinding, iron removal should be carried out, and the fineness <0.09mm or <0.044mm should be ≥90%. When preparing, it can be used alone or in proportion. Sometimes high-grade materials such as alumina powder, white corundum powder or brown corundum powder of the same fineness are added to improve the matrix performance of low cement refractory castables.

 

 

The performance characteristics of low cement refractory castables are high strength, and the medium temperature strength does not decrease but increases significantly. The reasons are multifaceted. Among them, the dehydration of calcium aluminate hydrate is carried out slowly and continuously within a large temperature range, and the crystal structure is less damaged.
