Zirconia Fiber

Zirconia Fiber

Zirconia fiber refers to a heat-insulating refractory material whose main component is ZrO2 polycrystal. It is a high-melting-point polycrystalline fiber, mainly composed of zirconium oxide (ZrO2), with a classification temperature of 2200℃ and a melting point of 2715℃. The fiber diameter is 3-6um, and the length of a single fiber is 10-150mm. It is white in appearance, smooth, soft, and elastic, just like cotton wool.
Fiber cotton can be made into: zirconia fiber board, zirconia fiber felt, zirconia fiber module, zirconia fiber paper, zirconia fiber furnace, zirconia fiber special-shaped parts, etc. through a variety of forming processes. The products have high high-temperature chemical stability, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, thermal shock resistance, non-volatility and pollution-free.
Preparation methods include extrusion, blowing, electrospinning, sol-gel, template and impregnation. These methods usually involve preparing a spinning solution containing zirconium ions, and converting it into organic and/or inorganic precursor fibers by spinning, drawing, spinning, etc., and then converting it into a product with a predetermined composition and structure by heat treatment.

Zirconia fiber is an oxide refractory material made from zirconium oxide (ZrO2) with a purity greater than 99% using high-temperature ceramic process or other special process.

Zirconia fiber properties

Zirconia has a melting point of 2700℃ and a Mohs hardness of 7. It has two variants. Below 1000℃, it is a monoclinic system (density 5.68g/cm3), and at 1000℃, it forms a tetragonal system (density 6.10g/cm3). This crystal form is a reversible transformation. During the cooling process, the crystal form transformation is accompanied by a 7% volume expansion, which can cause the product to crack. Adding stabilizers and ZrO2 to form a cubic solid solution can eliminate the volume expansion caused by the above crystal form transformation. Zirconia has low thermal conductivity (1000℃, 2.09W/(m·K)), large linear expansion coefficient (25~1500℃ 9.4×10-6/℃), high temperature structural strength, and the attached compressive strength can reach 1200~1400MPa at 1000℃. It has good conductivity and a negative temperature coefficient of resistance. The resistivity is 104Ω·cm at 1000℃ and 6~7Ω·cm at 1700℃. It has good chemical stability and does not work on various molten metals, silicates, glasses, etc. below 2000°C. Solutions of caustic alkali, carbonates, and various acids (except concentrated sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid) do not work on zirconium oxide.

Product Description

Zirconia fiber is the only polycrystalline refractory fiber product that can be used for a long time in ultra-high temperature oxidizing atmosphere above 1600℃. Due to the high melting point and non-oxidation of ZrO2 itself, it has a higher use temperature and thermal insulation performance than alumina fiber. In addition, it has stable high-temperature chemical properties, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, thermal shock resistance, non-volatility, and no pollution. Zirconia fiber is a well-deserved top-grade refractory fiber material.
