Refractory bauxite is a hydrated alumina-bearing mineral containing various impurities. Its primary component is alumina, and its composition is complex. It is a general term for a group of hydrated alumina ores, including diaspore, boehmite, and gibbsite, and often contains impurities such as kaolinite, clay, iron, and titanium.
It typically appears white or grayish-white, but may turn brownish-yellow or light red due to the presence of iron. Its color can vary depending on the origin and firing conditions.
It has a density of approximately 3.45 g/cm³ and a hardness of 1–3. It is opaque, brittle, and has a very high melting point. It is insoluble in water but soluble in sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions. It is formed through chemical weathering and secondary geological processes.

In the refractory industry, refractory bauxite generally refers to calcined bauxite with an Al₂O₃ content of ≥48% and relatively low Fe₂O₃ content.
High-alumina bauxite clinker is obtained by high-temperature calcination of refractory bauxite ore. It typically exhibits a grayish-white, light yellow, or dark gray appearance and is primarily used in the production of high-alumina refractory materials. It can also serve as a raw material for fused brown corundum production.
High-alumina bauxite clinker is classified according to its Al₂O₃ content, impurity levels (such as Fe₂O₃, TiO₂, CaO+MgO, and K₂O+Na₂O), as well as its bulk density and water absorption.

Grades are classified based on alumina (Al₂O₃) content, such as 88%, 85%, 80%, 75%, 70%, 65%, and 55%. The primary component is alumina, with minor impurities such as iron and silica.
The main mineral phases include gibbsite, boehmite, and diaspore, which are hydrated alumina minerals with compositions such as Al₂O₃·H₂O and Al₂O₃·3H₂O. Bauxite can be classified into gibbsite-type, boehmite-type, and diaspore-type depending on its dominant mineral structure.

⑴Aluminum smelting industry. Used in defense, aviation, automotive, electrical appliances, chemical industry, and daily necessities.
⑵Precision casting. Alumina clinker is processed into fine powder, molded, and then precision cast. Used in military, aerospace, communications, instrumentation, machinery, and medical device industries.
⑶Used in refractory products. High-alumina Refractory bauxite clinker has a refractoriness of up to 1780℃, strong chemical stability, and good physical properties.
⑷Aluminosilicate refractory fiber. It possesses advantages such as light weight, high temperature resistance, good thermal stability, low thermal conductivity, low heat capacity, and resistance to mechanical vibration. It is used in various industries including steel, non-ferrous metallurgy, electronics, petroleum, chemical, aerospace, nuclear energy, and national defense.
It is made by placing high-alumina clinker into a high-temperature electric arc furnace with a melting temperature of approximately 2000–2200℃, where it is melted at high temperature, blown by high-pressure, high-speed air or steam, and then cooled, resulting in pure white aluminosilicate refractory fibers. These fibers can be pressed into fiber blankets, boards, or woven into cloth to replace refractory bricks used as linings in high-temperature kilns in industries such as metallurgy, chemicals, and glass. Firefighters can also use the refractory fiber cloth to make clothing.
⑸Using magnesia and Refractory bauxite clinker as raw materials, and adding appropriate binders, it is used for refractory furnace linings.
⑹It can be used to manufacture Refractory bauxite cement, abrasive materials, and various aluminum compounds for the ceramics and chemical industries.
