Clay refractory mud is used as an amorphous refractory material for refractory masonry joints, also known as joint material. Clay refractory mud is composed of refractory powder with a certain particle ratio, binder, and admixture, and is mixed into a slurry with water or liquid mixture.
Clay refractory mud uses hard clay clinker as the base material, combined with soft clay or chemical binders. It is mainly used for joints and repairs of furnace bodies built with clay bricks in blast furnaces, hot blast furnaces, coke ovens, soaking furnaces, heat exchangers, boilers, etc. In addition, there are some special muds, such as anhydrous (non-aqueous) mud, expansion mud, etc.
Composition The powder for making clay refractory mud can be selected from fully sintered clinker and other various refractory raw materials with stable volume. The particle size of the powder material depends on the use requirements, and its limit particle size is generally less than 1mm, and some are less than 0.5mm or finer. Reasonable particle composition has a great influence on ensuring the construction performance of the mud, and the same is true for binders and admixtures.
The binder used in ordinary refractory mud is binding clay. With the higher requirements of users, chemical binders have been used more and more widely. Adding various admixtures to the refractory mud can improve the construction performance of the refractory mud, such as adding a water-retaining agent to extend the water loss time and ensure the construction quality; adding a plasticizer can increase the plasticity of the mud when the addition amount is small; adding a dispersant to improve the fluidity of the mud, etc.
