Zirconium Mullite Bricks

Zirconium Mullite Bricks

Zirconium mullite brick is a special refractory material, mainly made of mullite containing zirconium dioxide. This material improves the organizational structure of mullite by introducing ZrO2 matrix in the Al2O3-SiO2 system, aiming to further improve the chemical corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance of mullite and reduce the expansion coefficient. Zirconium mullite bricks are usually prepared by electric melting method, the purpose of which is to improve high-temperature mechanical properties by forming solid solution and utilizing the phase transformation toughening mechanism of ZrO2. When the mass fraction of ZrO2 is between 15% and 30%, the performance is mainly improved by stress-induced phase transformation toughening; when ZrO2 is greater than 30%, microcrack toughening is the main method.
It is widely used in various industrial kilns, including: roller kiln, drawer kiln, shuttle kiln, tunnel kiln, special ceramic firing furnace; blast furnace hot blast furnace, sintering furnace, rolling heating furnace, ladle insulation lining; annealing furnace, forging furnace, aluminum melting furnace, vacuum furnace, carbonization furnace, tempering furnace; cracking furnace, reforming furnace; glass annealing furnace, glass melting furnace; high temperature test furnace, etc. It can be directly used as refractory lining or insulation layer, and is also an updated product for burner support bricks, burner fixing bricks and lightweight burner bricks of medium and high temperature kilns.

Zirconium mullite fused-cast bricks

A fused-cast refractory product made of mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2) and zirconium oxide (ZrO2). Zirconium mullite bricks have low porosity, high density, excellent chemical stability and wear resistance, and are better than mullite fused-cast bricks in terms of glass erosion resistance.

Zirconium mullite brick manufacturing process Bauxite is used as aggregate, soft clay and zircon are used as additives, and the ingredients are mixed according to a certain particle ratio. After being fully mixed, an appropriate amount of water is added to make mud. The pressed rough blank is dried and calcined to make clinker. After the clinker is crushed, a mineralizer (magnesium oxide) is added and melted in a three-phase electric arc furnace. Its working current is 1000A~1500A, the working voltage is 110V~140V, and the melting temperature is 1780~1800℃. The molten high-temperature melt is injected into the mold, and zirconium mullite bricks are made by pouring, slow cooling and annealing.

There are two methods of melting in an electric arc furnace: reduction method and oxidation method. The total impurity content of the molten cast products produced by the oxidation method is low, such as Fe2O3, TiO2, etc. The variable valence oxides are in a high valence state, and the glass phase precipitation temperature is higher than that of the products produced by the reduction method. Generally, the oxidation method is used to produce zirconium mullite bricks.

Uses Zirconium mullite bricks can be used in heating furnaces and soaking furnaces in the metallurgical industry; side walls, neck hanging walls and other parts of glass melting tank kilns in the building materials industry.
