
60 Self-Flowing Castable is formulated using high-alumina aggregates and micro powders with a low-cement bonding system. During construction, the material flows under its own weight, filling the formwork to form a uniform and dense refractory lining, effectively minimizing the impact of human factors on construction quality.
The flowability of the castable is strongly influenced by its particle size distribution and aggregate proportion. Proper selection of aggregate size and distribution is critical. The critical particle size of refractory aggregates is generally 5 mm, occasionally extending to 8 mm. Larger particles are heavier and more difficult to suspend, reducing flow. Ideally, aggregates should be approximately spherical with low water absorption to facilitate smooth flow.
For optimal performance, the mixture must flow freely, degas, and self-compact within a controlled setting time. Flowability tests of the castable immediately after mixing and at 10, 20, and 30 minutes showed self-flow diameters of 210 mm, 210 mm, 205 mm, and 200 mm, respectively. This indicates that the mixture should be used within 30 minutes to maintain sufficient fluidity and ensure optimal performance.
